Germany-based conglomerate thyssenkrupp announced on 7 February that it has acquired the advanced visual docking guidance system (A-VDGS) business of FMT for an undisclosed sum.
FMT will continue to manufacture passenger boarding bridges for airports, in competition with thyssenkrupp.
Philip de Coninck, CEO of thyssenkrupp Airport Solutions, explained that the company targeted Sweden-based FMT as part of a strategy to offer digitalised systems that can improve passenger flows, aircraft turnaround times, and gate safety and security.
“With our solutions we want to help our customers not only avoid this expense but also have quicker turnaround times and safer environments at the gate,” he said.
