A report from the European Environment Agency (EEA) has raised concerns about the growth in carbon emissions from the European aviation sector.
The EEA – an agency of the European Union – calculated that emissions from international aviation in Europe have surged by 108% since 1990, and by an annual average of about 2% between 2013 and 2016. The report added that the sector is “expected to continue to grow rapidly in the coming decades”, with a predicted annual growth in emissions from European aviation of 1-4% (including EU member states and Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and the United Kingdom).
