The Roundtable for Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) has announced that it has issued its first certification of a refinery making bio-jet fuel in a reliably sustainable manner.
US-based AltAir Fuels has been certified by the RSB as a producer of biojet-fuel, renewable diesel and naphtha, a petrol component. AltAir refines waste feedstocks to produce its fuels; since 2016, it has been the only refiner to continually produce biojet-fuel for commercial use. RSB certification is supported by many airlines worldwide, notably the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Users Group (SAFUG) – a group of 27 carriers that consume one-third of global aviation fuel.
