Saudi Air Navigation Services (SANS) has commissioned Indra to conduct a major nationwide air traffic management (ATM) system upgrade.
Indra will overhaul the two main SANS en route control centres in Jeddah and Riyadh, and the approach control centres at Dammam and Abha.
It will also re-equip control towers at about 20 sites, including Jeddah, Riyadh, Abha, and Dammam international airports.
The three-year project forms part of the Saudi Vision 2030 programme, which aims to diversify the national economy.
“The number of pilgrims alone who use SANS airports every year to visit Mecca and Medina is predicted to rise from eight million to 20 million following modernisation of the air infrastructure,” said Indra.
