The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on 20 February announced a new weekly record for firearms detected at airport security checkpoints in the United States.

A total of 104 guns (87 of them loaded, and 38 of those with a round in the chamber) were found between 5–11 February. The previous unwanted record of 96 was set in July 2017.

The TSA intercepted firearms at 239 airports in 2017, when 16.7% more firearms were discovered in carry-on bags at airport checkpoints. The total of 3,957 translates as 76.1 per week, or 10.8 per day.

Of the firearms found at checkpoints in 2017, 84% were loaded and 34.8% had a round in the chamber.
