French air navigation service provider DSNA selected Esterline to equip Brest and Bordeaux en route centres with 4k x 2k LCD displays, replacing legacy systems from the Belgian manufacturer. DSNA selected the 43-inch Codis MDP-843 display after several months of extensive testing and in-depth evaluation. Head of Programs Guy Vilquin said, “We wanted a 43-inch display to enable our traffic controllers to view large-sized radar images .... In addition, our operators will be able to see ancillary information, like flight schedules and data from the Medium-Term Conflict Detection (MTCD) system, on the same screen .... By consolidating all information on one main screen, the new display is a more ergonomic solution.”
Esterline is due to supply more than 200 displays by mid-2018. The company’s Vice-President of ATC Solutions Steven Luys said the market is shifting in favour of larger screens.
