ULMA Handling Systems is to complete work in September 2018 on extending the early bag storage (EBS) facility in Terminal 1 (T1) at Madrid Barajas, having won a tender from Aena in 2017.
ULMA commercial director Nacho Ortiz said that studies (forming part of the tender) suggested that the existing 200-bag capacity T1 EBS could be developed into a 400-bag facility.
“It is quite a complicated contract, not only because we didn’t build the original [Siemens] system but also because there were considerable space constraints that needed to be overcome,” he explained to Jane’s during Passenger Terminal Expo in Stockholm on 20-22 March.
