Los Angeles selects builder for consolidated police HQ

11 May 2018

The Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) at Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has awarded a design-build contract to Hansel Phelps for an Airport Police Facility (APF) at Los Angeles International.

The estimated cost of the project is USD233.5 million, funded by general airport revenues. Pre-construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2019 with completion in the second quarter of 2021.

According to LAWA, the APF will consolidate most policing functions at Los Angeles under one roof. The Airport Police Division (APD) currently operates from nine disparate locations across a distance of about 10 km. “The project is intended to improve the communication and co-ordination of operations and resources for essential public safety services at Los Angeles International,” LAWA stated in project documents.
