Closer collaboration among some air navigation service providers (ANSPs) is behind recent capacity and safety enhancements in the Middle East, where airspace management struggles to keep pace with demand growth.
Despite political unrest across much of the region, ANSPs from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) launched an executive work programme 18 months ago, including the development of certain common technical requirements.
“It is the first time that UAE and Saudi Air Navigation Services (SANS) sat together with potential ATM system providers,” UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) Assistant Director Ahmed Ibrahim Al Jallaf told delegates at World ATM Congress in March 2018.
