Royal Schiphol Group, green energy supplier Eneco, and the Dutch municipality of Vianen have opened a new wind farm capable of supplying 10% of total energy needs at Schiphol, Lelystad, Eindhoven, and Rotterdam the Hague airports.
The Vianen windfarm includes three turbines, two of which will supply a total of 20 GWh annually to the four Royal Schiphol Group airports. Local primary schools located in Vianen were asked to submit names for the new turbines. The winning entries were ‘Green Tower’ and ‘Flying Electric’.
Eneco is looking to supply the excess energy created by the third turbine (about 10 GWh per annum) to local residents. Eneco is also set to contribute USD35,000 each year to improve spatial quality in the Vianen area.
