Pay more attention to insider threat prevention, says Ross

Airport managers attending the Airport Security Middle East conference during the Dubai Airport Show (7-9 May) were urged not only to recruit security staff with sufficient experience, skills and qualifications, but also to reward them adequately, lest they are bribed to ignore a threat or even collaborate with an attack.

International aviation consultant Desmond Ross told delegates that while airports can make intelligent, educated guesses at what or where a threat could arise, security ultimately depends on the presence of well-trained and motivated staff.

“Never mind the design of the airport and the fancy equipment and machines that are in place,” Ross remarked.
