Kalmar Motor has improved its bespoke electric-drive TBL 800 eSchlepper aircraft tow tractor for Lufthansa LEOS at Frankfurt Airport, following feedback from ground handlers at the German hub.

Sweden-based Kalmar also plans to offer electric versions of all their vehicle types by 2021.

The TBL 800 was the first hybrid tractor able to provide pushback and high-speed towing on widebodies, such as the B-767 and A380.

Certification was undertaken by Kalmar and Lufthansa LEOS, a subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik AG, as part of the Airport eMove project at Frankfurt Airport (this, in turn, was part of the wider E-PORT AN initiative involving Lufthansa and airport operator Fraport).
