The Daxing construction project is the first for a Chinese international airport to include crowd simulation software as a critical early-stage component in the process, according to Arup software house Oasys.
The Oasys MassMotion simulation tool was used with other software (Simio 3D and Elevate) to spot and resolve potential problems before the scheduled opening date of 1 October 2019.
A detailed Simio 3D model of the main terminal at Daxing generated key passenger flow data, which influenced the positioning of passenger processing facilities such as check-in, security, and boarding.
The MassMotion model suggested where major bottlenecks would occur. Using the passenger flow data, detailed passenger schedules and distributions were developed to ‘design out’ congestion.
