The government of Kyrgystan received new navaids for Manas International Airport on 29 June, which were funded by a grant from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as part of a broader upgrade programme.
The JPY1.4 billion (USD13.5 million) grant also funded the purchase of ground support equipment from the Czech Republic, France, and the United States.
Another upgrade is under way in neighbouring Tajikistan, where the Air Navigation State Unitary Enterprise announced a USD1.2 million procurement of radio communications systems. Installation of the technology – procured from an unnamed supplier – will be completed by the end of July.
