Airways New Zealand is to install and deploy two radar/non-radar simulators, and a Total Control LCD tower simulator, at Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport for the Lebanese Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The equipment will mimic a full Flight Information Region environment “using high-fidelity 3D graphics, and simulating any weather conditions”, Airways announced on 10 July. “Airways’ Total Control simulation technology enhances the quality and speed of ATC training, significantly reducing on-the-job training time while the industry worldwide is under increased pressure to train enough air traffic controllers to meet demand.”
Airways was awarded the contract by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the DGCA after a tender process.
