YITU Technology, a company established by Massachusetts Institute of Technology students and backed by Chinese capital, has developed software that exploits artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to interrogate a database of 1.2 billion facial images in under three seconds.
Solutions have already been deployed across various sectors, said UK business development manager Peter Hood. Images can be compared rapidly against a database, triggering an instant alarm if a suspect is spotted in a crowd in an airport.
At Terminal 2 in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, which opened in April 2018, YITU provided a pre-boarding facial recognition system for all passengers.
