Chinese airport checkpoints will include millimetre-wave (MMW) body scanners, after the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) issued technical standards and a testing programme for the technology.
The CAAC announced that the new systems will gradually replace legacy metal detectors that are becoming obsolete.
MMW body scanners were trialled at four Chinese airports in August 2017, followed by more tests at two airports in May 2018.
