Zurich set for BHS upgrade

08 August 2018

A Leonardo-led consortium has signed a EUR150 million (USD173.7 million) contract to upgrade the baggage handling system (BHS) at Zürich Airport in Switzerland.

Leonardo is responsible for the overall project management, system design, and integration, as well as the supply of eight cross-belt sorters with 80 induction lines, about 7 km of high-speed conveyor belt, and 12 km of traditional conveyor belt.

The company is also providing a diagnostic IT system for predictive maintenance, based on a specialist network of sensors. Austrian company motion06 will provide additional components for the BHS.

The BHS project involves most of the existing terminals at Zürich as well as multiple new buildings under construction.
