The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has told Menzies Aviation that it will face an in-depth probe unless it can address competition concerns following its purchase of Airline Services Limited. The acquisition was completed in April 2018, adding four new airport locations to the Menzies portfolio.
Both companies supply UK airlines and airports with support services, including aircraft de-icing; ground-handling services (including baggage, ramp, passenger, and airside cargo handling); and cleaning and maintenance of aircraft interiors.
Following an initial investigation, the CMA identified competition concerns regarding de-icing services at Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Heathrow, and ground-handling services at Gatwick and Manchester.
