Firefighting and rescue capabilities at Gibraltar International Airport are being improved with investment of GBP3 million (USD3.9 million) in new vehicles and equipment.
Four Rosenbauer Panther vehicles, one Angloco light rescue pump, and two Volkswagen Amarok command and operational support vehicles have been ordered. All vehicles are fitted with Euro 6 engines and will replace the present Ministry of Defence fleet, much of which is approximately 20-years old. Operator training is expected to be completed by the end of August and then the vehicles will enter service.
Three of the Panthers will be in 6x6 configuration and the remaining vehicle will be a 4x4.
