Flughafen Hamburg, the operator of Hamburg Airport in Germany, has selected Vanderlande Industries to ensure that baggage-handling infrastructure in Terminal 2 will meet ECAC Standard 3 requirements for hold baggage screening.
The two-phase project, to be carried out in consecutive winter seasons (2018–19 and 2019–20), includes the dismantling and reconfiguration of the entire sortation system for outbound luggage.
Vanderlande will also optimise the floor layout with two new sorters, but its task is complicated by the requirement not to impair normal baggage-handling system (BHS) operations during the conversion process, and physical space is limited.
Extra work is needed to optimise existing conveyor technology and programmable logic control (PLC) systems.
