Indra is to install air traffic control tower equipment for the second international airport in Chengdu, China.
Under a EUR27 million (USD31 million) deal from the South West Air Traffic Management Bureau (SWATMB) of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), Indra is installing its Aircon 2100 automation system in the Terminal Area Control Centre at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport.
An Indra spokesperson told Jane’s that installation of the integrated control tower system, including electronic flight strips, will be tested at Tianfu before the end of 2019. It will “facilitate the flow of information between both airport towers and the different control centres and data received from ground surveillance radars”, offering “improved security”, the spokesperson added.
Indra will also provide an instrument landing system (ILS) for the new airport. It has already installed about 400 navaids in China.
