Goldhofer launched a major push into the North American market on 2–4 October during the International Airport GSE Expo in Las Vegas, by unveiling its new BISON family of diesel and electric-powered aircraft tow tractors.
The Germany-based ground support equipment manufacturer displayed three different Bison models at the show. The largest BISON is the diesel-powered D 1000, which can handle widebody aircraft such as the B-747-400 or A340-600. Also on display for the first time was the medium-sized BISON D 620 with a deadweight of up to 62,000 lb, which can operate with B-767s; and the lithium battery-powered BISON E 370, which is also available in a diesel version.
According to Goldhofer, BISON is a “completely new vehicle family that combines state-of-the-art technology with a unique modular design” that allows diesel-powered BISON models to be converted into BISON E electric variants at any time, allowing owners to go green without having to exchange their BISON fleet.
Goldhofer has implemented the same concept with its SHERPA family of baggage and cargo tow tractors, which was represented in Las Vegas by a fully electric SHERPA E model. The high-capacity lithium-ion battery on SHERPA E is based on IonMaster technology that Goldhofer co-developed with Suncar.
