The US Air Force (USAF) awarded General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) a five-year contract worth USD23 million in September 2018 to replace existing ATC radios at its bases in Europe.
GDMS is providing more than 140 of its CM-300/350 V2 software-defined radios. Based on the NEXCOM Segment II design, the radios support Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and they are networked for remote monitoring and maintenance. The VHF/UHF radios include VoIP technology input from France-based Telerad.
The CM-300/350 V2 software-defined radio complies with international VoIP standards and it is already used by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for air-ground communications across the US.
