Smiths scanner meets EDSCB C3 standard

26 October 2018

The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX checkpoint baggage scanner from Smiths Detection has obtained C3 certification from the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), under the Explosive Detection System for Cabin Baggage (EDSCB) evaluation programme.

ECAC tested HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX with automated tray return systems from MacDonald Humphrey and Smiths Detection.

The C3 performance standard allows screening of cabin baggage containing liquids, aerosols and gels, laptops, and other large electrical items. However, national security regulations could still demand that passengers continue divesting these items at the checkpoint.

HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX features a CT gantry that rotates at a constant rate. The conveyor belt moves at 0.2 m/sec, which Smiths Detection says is faster than most other checkpoint screening systems.
