The first remote tower for air traffic control (ATC) in South America will be deployed in Argentina.
Ministro Pistarini International Airport (also known as Ezeiza International Airport) in Buenos Aires will adopt the camera-based smartVISION solution from Frequentis for enhanced surveillance during an expansion programme that includes an enlarged terminal and new ATC tower.
The smartVISION system will be transferred to the new tower when it is completed. It will help controllers at Ezeiza handle an expected fourfold increase in aircraft movements. The technology uses advanced thermal and infrared camera technology, with video-based surveillance and tracking functionality, to provide an out-of-the-window, 360° view of the airfield.
