ICAO changes aerodrome rules to free up capacity

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has passed an amendment to Annex 14 Volume I that reduces the minimum requirements for runway width, taxiway width, and runway-to-taxiway separation at airports.

The new rules – which came into effect on 8 November – mean that more airports will be able to safely to accommodate widebody Code F aircraft such as the B-747 and A380, alleviating capacity problems at constrained hubs.
