Istanbul plans fast cargo growth

The CEO of Istanbul Airport operator İGA has divulged further details on the scale and timeline for adding cargo facilities to the new hub.

“As of today … logistics companies are constructing their buildings on a surface [area] of 200,000 m2 ,” Kadri Samsunlu told Jane’s . “By the end of year [2018], 80,000 m2 of buildings will be fully operational.” By late 2019, Turkish Airlines Cargo will complete construction of facilities covering 200,000 m2 .

The longer-term development strategy from İGA also includes a 1.4 million m2 Istanbul Airport Cargo City. In its first year, Cargo City is expected to handle 1.5 million tonnes of cargo via nine bonded and four unbonded warehouses.
