The CEO of Istanbul Airport operator İGA has divulged further details on the scale and timeline for adding cargo facilities to the new hub.
“As of today … logistics companies are constructing their buildings on a surface [area] of 200,000 m2 ,” Kadri Samsunlu told Jane’s . “By the end of year , 80,000 m2 of buildings will be fully operational.” By late 2019, Turkish Airlines Cargo will complete construction of facilities covering 200,000 m2 .
The longer-term development strategy from İGA also includes a 1.4 million m2 Istanbul Airport Cargo City. In its first year, Cargo City is expected to handle 1.5 million tonnes of cargo via nine bonded and four unbonded warehouses.
