Accipiter meets BASH requirements on Wake Island

20 November 2018

The US Air Force (USAF) has ordered a TS1-24D-XE 3D Avian Radar System from Accipiter Radar Corporation for deployment at Wake Island, following a competitive tender.

The radar is being installed on the remote Pacific atoll as part of the USAF Safety Center Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) programme.

Neither the USAF nor Accipiter disclosed the value of the deal or the deployment timeframe, although the Canadian company noted that this is a “unique and challenging” project.

The software-definable TS1-24D-XE will be tailored to the operating environment at Wake Island. Its low volume of traffic means that airspace can be scanned for bird flocks before each arrival and departure.
