SITA describes Chinese IT spending surge

23 November 2018

Investment in technology at Chinese airports continues to surge amid rising air travel demand, according to SITA.

Its 2018 Air Transport IT Insights for China report surveyed 70% of airports and 64% of airlines from mainland China. The report found that 94% of airlines and airports are planning major cyber-security programmes or research and development schemes over the next three years. Airports are forecast to spend 18% of their IT budget on cyber security in 2018, while airlines are forecast to spend 7% of theirs.

Baggage management software is another important area of investment for Chinese airports and airlines. By 2019 all the carriers surveyed plan to comply with IATA Resolution 753 for end-to-end baggage tracking across more than 50% of their route network.
