SITA will continue to provide IT and telecommunications outsourcing services for Heathrow Airport under a new service contract worth an undisclosed amount.
The contract will be phased in at Heathrow over the next 16 months, with the aim of transforming the Heathrow Tower (the vast communication network at the UK hub) from a localised to a global structure that allows remote management of 12,000 telephones, 150,000 LAN connections, 1,900 radios, and 3,500 WLAN access points.
A crucial element of the transformation programme is the integration of automation and self-healing technologies (such as automated network incident response), with SITA partnering industry experts to further development.
