Spanish consortium to test UAV integration

31 December 2018

Spanish air traffic service provider ENAIRE is leading a consortium called DOMUS that has been picked by the European Union (EU) to work on testing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) airspace integration.

Announcing the decision on 17 December, ENAIRE said the tests would represent “the most advanced demonstration of operation U-space: the management system for drone [UAV] traffic” as the group works ‘to integrate them with the operations of manned aircraft and access to airspace.”

Seventeen companies will be involved in the trials, in which some EUR4 million (USD4.5 million) – half provided by the EU – will be invested in tests in southern Spain.
