Central European traffic surges beyond forecasts

Multiple central European countries experienced higher flight volumes than the upper forecasts provided by Eurocontrol statistics service Statfor in 2018.

Four of the six air navigation service providers (ANSPs) in Functional Airspace Block Europe Central (FAB CE) recorded double-digit percentage growth, said FAB CE Programme Manager Matej Eljon. “It has required significant efforts to cope with this unpredicted traffic,” he told Jane’s .

Although FAB CE performance was affected, he added, member ANSPs worked hard to avoid disruption to the rest of network. Year-end average delays are estimated at about 0.81 minutes per flight, compared with a target of 0.28 minutes.
