SPPAL teams with French partner on cargo AGVs

Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics (SPPAL) is exploring the use of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) for transporting cargo unit load devices (ULDs) after signing an exclusive agreement with French engineering company Gaussin Manugistique.SPPAL and Gaussin are working to commercialise AGVs for transporting ULDs at airports (SPPAL)SPPAL and Gaussin are working to commercialise AGVs for transporting ULDs at airports (SPPAL)

The deal blends conveyor and material-handling expertise from SPPAL with AGV technology from Gaussin. Specifically, Siemens will expand its turnkey offering to include AGV solutions for ULDs, offering airports higher productivity for transporting time-sensitive shipments.

Gaussin already serves the airport sector with its modular electric Powerpack product, which was developed in co-operation with French atomic energy agency CEA. Powerpack includes two types of lithium battery for use with electric ramp equipment.
