German air navigation service provider DFS has acquired a 23.3% share in Unifly, a Belgian software company specialising in unmanned aerial system traffic management (UTM).
DFS is now the largest shareholder in Unifly, which was established in 2015. The deal, which was completed on 21 December 2018, cost about EUR13 million (USD15 million).
The UTM cloud-based software program from Unifly integrates unmanned aerial vehicles into existing air traffic management frameworks. The company is the main supplier for the future UTM system in Germany, and also operates in Belgium, China, Denmark, France, Japan, Malawi, Spain, and the US.
