Heathrow resumes operations after reported UAV sighting

09 January 2019

Heathrow temporarily suspended operations on 8 January after reports of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) near the airport.

The closure only lasted for one hour, in contrast with the lengthy disruption at Gatwick Airport on 19–21 December. Normal operations resumed by 1900 h GMT, and arrivals and departures were proceeding as scheduled at the time of writing.

An investigation is under way, and a UK Ministry of Defence spokesperson said that “specialist equipment” is being deployed to Heathrow at the request of the Metropolitan Police.
