Budapest, Vilnius, and Warsaw select secunet for ABC

29 January 2019

Airports in Hungary, Lithuania, and Poland have selected Germany-based secunet AG to provide e-gates ahead of the European launch of the Entry/Exit System (EES) by 2021.

An undisclosed number of secunet easygate units will be installed at Budapest Liszt Ferenc, Vilnius, and Warsaw Chopin international airports.

The automated border control (ABC) system uses optical and electronic methods to check the authenticity of e-passports and identity cards. The system reads the facial image from the chip in the electronic identity document, and compares the biometric data with a live image of the passenger.

Border control staff monitor the process and focus on those travellers that require further checks.
