Oman Airports is procuring an AARTOS Drone Detection System from German company Aaronia for installation as an approved solution at Muscat International Airport.
Local partner R&N Khilji is supporting Aaronia on the EUR10 million (USD11.4 million) contract, which was awarded after AARTOS was successfully trialled at Muscat International.
The timeframe for the project was not disclosed.
The fully automatic AARTOS system can detect and track unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other small targets using passive, artificial intelligence-based radio frequency (RF) spectrum analysis with a range of up to 50 km, “depending on the specifications”, according to Aaronia. “It can detect multiple drones at various frequencies simultaneously and comes equipped with sophisticated long-range cameras for additional verification.”
The system is also capable of detecting the location of the UAV operator, the company added. Its RTSA Suite PRO situation awareness software includes a 3D map, camera control, and real-time air traffic display.
