Gatwick Airport has been collaborating with Stanley Robotics with the aim of implementing an autonomous parking system.
A three-month trial at the airport is planned to begin in August before Gatwick officials decide whether to pursue the project. The trial is proposed within Zone B of the Long Stay Car Park, with 270 of the existing 2,350 spaces to be converted for robot valet parking spots. If the system is successful, Gatwick Airport Ltd (GAL) suggests that up to 30% more vehicles will be able to fit within the same space, with future predictions of an increased capacity from 6,000 to 8,500 spaces between Zones C and D.
