Rapiscan has launched the first products in its new ORION range of security inspection devices, for faster and more accurate checkpoint screening of bags and small parcels.
Three new solutions (the 918CX, 920CX, and 922CX) were announced on 28 January with additional models to follow, although Rapiscan had not divulged further details on the development timeframe at the time of writing. The machines must undergo a certification and testing process before operational deployment at airport checkpoints.
The ORION range leverages recent developments in artificial intelligence and machine-learning, with proprietary algorithms created by Rapiscan to identify specific narcotics and explosives with high accuracy.
ORION also includes an enhanced operating system, variable conveyor belt speed, and intelligent bag management technology, as well as an open architecture that “allows for an upgrade path, which enables future implementation of new imaging components across multiple platforms and a wide range of tunnel sizes”, Rapiscan announced.
