Passenger traffic at European airports increased by 6.1% in 2018 to reach a new full-year record total of 2.34 billion, according to figures released by Airports Council International (ACI) Europe on 6 February.
Airports in non-EU countries grew at a faster rate (8.3%) than the EU-wide average of 5.4%.
Aircraft movements increased by 4% in 2018 – faster than the 3.8% recorded in 2017 –despite the continued tendency of airlines to operate larger aircraft at busy international airports.
However, air freight growth decelerated from 8.4% in 2017 to just 1.8% in 2018, as non-EU airports (1.1%) once again outperformed their EU counterparts (5.6%).
