US missile-defence systems to protect Indian head of state

The US State Department has approved the USD190 million sale of counter-missile systems for two specially equipped B-777-300ERs, to be used to transport the Indian Prime Minister or President.

Boeing is the prime contractor on the project, which includes two self-protection suites that each comprise AN/AAQ 24(V)N Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures (LAIRCM); an ALQ-211(V)8 Advanced Integrated Defensive Electronic Warfare Suite (AIDEWS); and an AN/ALE-47 Counter-Measures Dispensing System (CMDS)
