Traffic dips at Rio

11 February 2019

Rio de Janeiro Galeão International Airport in Brazil reported a fall in full-year passenger traffic and fewer aircraft movements in 2018.

A total of 15 million passengers used Galeão, marking a 7.6% year-on-year decrease. Take-offs and landings fell by about 10,000 (or 8.3%) to 110,164.

Poor national economic performance in recent years has affected air travel demand in Brazil. GDP contracted in 2015 and 2016, before growing by 1.0% in 2017 and 1.3% in 2018.
