Brazilian air navigation service provider (ANSP) Department of Airspace Control (DECEA) has selected smartVision technology from Frequentis as a remote control tower visualisation system (SVR-TWR) at Santa Cruz Air Base.

The contract award from Brazilian Airspace Control System Implementation Commission (CISCEA) includes the supply of high-resolution cameras, pan-tilt-zoom cameras, and an integrated light gun. Data from the cameras will be fed to a video wall in the remote tower centre, equipped with two integrated controller working positions.

The solution supports static and dynamic view augmentation, surveillance labels, automatic object detection, and camera-tracking based on image recognition. It also features legal video, voice recording, and replay synchronisation. The solution enables controllers to manage traffic from a remote location by relaying and enhancing the view from a conventional tower.

“By installing high-definition cameras at the aerodrome we will provide air traffic controllers with a visualisation of the entire airport and its surroundings, displaying information in real-time on high-definition screens in the remote operating environment,” said Major Brigadier Fernando Cesar Pereira Santos, the president of CISCEA. “Visual surveillance labels will further enhance the controllers’ overview of the traffic situation picture.”
