WATM 2019: Hong Kong tests Indra GBAS

12 March 2019

Indra reports the completion of successful Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) flight trials at Hong Kong International Airport, on behalf of the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (CAD), during World ATM Congress in Madrid from 12 to 14 March.

“Flight inspection verified that the GBAS performance met the intended operational requirements,” said Indra.

Indra NORMARC GBAS ground equipment was used for the November–December 2018 flight trials, which included approaches flown by Cathay Pacific B-747-8 freighter aircraft. Indra also provided flight procedure and ionospheric analysis with subcontractor support from IDS Ingegneria Dei Sistemi and DLR.

Four Required Navigation Performance (RNP) to GBAS landing system approach procedures were designed and validated to show the capability of GBAS, and three of the RNP procedures were used in the flight trials.
