MAFI second phase moves closer

12 March 2019

The contract for the second phase of the Modernisation of Airfield Infrastructure (MAFI) programme is likely to be signed by mid-April.

MAFI is part of an initiative to modernise all airfields run by the Indian armed forces.

“Negotiations are over with the Ministry of Defence and Tata Power and the documents are vetted,” Dhruv Johri, programme director at Tata Power SED, told Jane’s in an exclusive interview.

In September 2018 Jane’s reported that negotiations were ongoing. Phase II of MAFI has attracted about 100 would-be vendors, said Johri.

Phase I overhauled 30 Indian Air Force (IAF) bases, and the second phase will upgrade 37 more (including three Indian Navy facilities).
