Vancouver builds additional car parking capacity

14 March 2019

Construction of an estimated CAD371 million (USD278 million) parking structure and ground transportation centre has begun at Vancouver International Airport, with completion scheduled for 2021.

The project is one of 75 included in a 20-year, CAD9.1 billion capital improvement programme at the Canadian airport.

The parking facility, called Parkade, will be six stories high with 3,600 spaces, 10% of which will include equipment for recharging electric vehicles. Contractor partners are EllisDon, Stantec, and Turner and Townsend. Park Assist will provide its M4 Parking Guidance System, a system that uses license plate recognition cameras and digital directional signage.
