US cuts transport budget

15 March 2019

President Trump’s 2020 budget proposes transportation spending cuts and calls for cities and states to raise their own revenues to fund infrastructure building. The 2020 budget cuts fiscal year (FY) discretional funding by 22% from the 2019 estimate.

In total, the 2020 budget requests USD21.4 billion in discretionary budget authority. Of this, USD3.3 billion would be invested in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), with the onus on modernising ATC infrastructure, improving safety, and reducing flight delays. Specifically, FAA would invest USD136 million to further expand its Data Communications program, which aims to improve the communication between controllers and pilots across all phases of flight.
