Spanish operator Aena Aeropuertos is set to begin testing facial recognition technology for boarding passengers.
The trial – involving Spanish carrier Air Europa - will be carried out at Menorca Airport. The supplier of the technology was undisclosed.
Confirmation of the trial came in a written response to a question in the Spanish Parliament. Asked what was being done to introduce biometrics in Spanish airports, the development ministry replied that facial recognition checks will only be applied to passengers who volunteer to participate in the trial.
