Leading participants in ground support equipment (GSE) pooling at London Luton report efficiency, safety and passenger experience benefits almost two years after the UK airport implemented the initiative in May 2017.
Liam Bolger, head of airside operations at London Luton, and Nicholas Dymock, UK business director at TCR (the third-party leasing company in the project) described positive outcomes for cost, equipment serviceability and availability, and ramp efficiency.
They told Jane’s that GSE pooling is working well with 25-minute aircraft turnarounds being the norm. More efficient use of available GSE means the ramp is a less-crowded environment; the latest figures show a 76% reduction in equipment damage, with the resultant savings passed on to the ground-handling companies at Luton.
